Summer Programs

Who: Children, teens, and young adults with ASD, ages 3-21When: June-August; M-F from 9am-3pm; sessions are two-weeks long.

What: A therapeutic summer program which provides both a behavior –based program with a focus on an extended school year (ESY) and social goals paired with the fun of a summer camp.

Why: Individuals with ASD benefit from a consistent summer experience that helps mirror their school-year experience, with providing them access to summer camp activities at the same time.

Autism Connections’ summer programs provide a behavior based educational summer experience while including all the fun of a typical summer camp! Our programs are uniquely designed to mirror the supports and experience that a child receives during the school-year by providing all of the same supports. We work closely with individual schools districts to address IEP goals and maintain school-year progress. We also provide a wide variety of additional supports including behavioral, social, and communication supports to enhance skills in those areas as well. We provide two exciting summer opportunities:

Summer Fun: Based in an elementary school, Summer Fun provides a daily experience where participants rotate through a variety of activity blocks, including: sensory, academics, gross motor, outdoor play, water play, and social group time. Field trips are held weekly. Summer Fun services ages 3-14 at a 1:3 staff to child ratio.

Teen Passages: Our Teen Passages program takes the same program elements a Summer Fun, but focuses them on appropriate activities for young adults. In addition to academics, sensory, gross motor, music and group social time, our Teen Passages participants also work on independent living skills and vocational skills, such as cleaning, cooking, and personal hygiene. Field Trips occur once a week on campus and once a week off campus. Teen Passages services ages 14-18 at a 1: 3 staff to teen ratio.

Emerging Adult Program: Based in a house-like setting, our Teen Passages program takes the same program elements a Summer Fun, but focuses them on appropriate activities for young adults. In addition to academics, sensory, gross motor, and group social time, our Teen Passages participants also work on independent living skills, such as cleaning, cooking, and personal hygiene. Field Trips occur two times per week. Teen Passages services ages 18-21 at a 1: 3 staff to teen ratio.

1:1 Individualized Intensive Programming: In both Summer Fun and Teen Passages, we offer a limited number of spots for 1:1 individualized programming. This program is specifically designed to meet higher level needs that may come with ASD. This program provides an individualized classroom/work setting, 1:1 staffing for the entire program, direct access to an ASD teacher, a formal written behavior plan and continued behavior support under the supervision of a BCBA, and pre and post program consultation with the schools. This program is designed to provide the supports needed to allow every participant to be successful and have a fun summer experience!
